Alpine Tunnel Loop
The Alpine Tunnel Loop is a little known but spectacular high-alpine ride. This loop ride has got it all: a ghost town; lots of mining history; truly spectacular views; rugged, primitive singletrack; and a brand new, smokin’ fast, super flowy singletrack descent.
We start and end in the historic ghost town of St. Elmo. From there we warm up with several miles of mellow climbing along a road that used to be a railroad. We’ll pass lots of historic mining relics on our way up to the Alpine Tunnel. Two and a half miles of primitive, above-treeline singletrack will take us past a small alpine lake and through some serious elk country. Although primitive, the trail is fun to ride, which is why we always wonder why we never see anyone up there. The views are ridiculous and so expansive that cameras just can’t capture it all. We finish with a fast, flowy descent on brand new singletrack that’s a stark comparison to the primitive singletrack we’ve just ridden. This descent is seriously fun – we guarantee you’ll be hootin’ and hollerin’.
