Visit the historic mining town of Turret, CO and learn about the railroad and mining industry that put Salida on the map in the late 1800’s. Turret sits at about 8500 ft, approximately 13 miles northwest of Salida. The area is rich in boom and bust history, with abandoned buildings telling the story of a town that once held up to 400 residents. Today, Turret is a quiet and quaint ghost town with a few private residences surrounded by national forest. This is a great route for an e-bike, as we will climb approximately 2300 feet on pavement and graded gravel roads from downtown Salida. You know what that means? 2300 ft of descending on the way home! Along the way we’re afforded views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and the Collegiate peaks, which offer a breathtaking backdrop to the Arkansas River Valley. Bring your camera!

Difficulty: Beginner-Intermediate. The route climbs approximately 2300 feet with some steeper sections along the way.
Trail: Pavement and graded gravel. Some steep sections of gravel road.
